Before Intravenous Sedation

Do not eat or drink after midnight before the scheduled appointment. (This includes water)

Bring someone to accompany you and drive you home. This person must stay in the waiting room throughout the length of your procedure. A parent must accompany minors for the duration of all appointments. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding medications. If there is a question please call our office prior to your surgery date.

Arrange to have someone stay with you the day of surgery.

Wear clothes that are comfortable with short sleeves for easy placement of the blood pressure cuff and ECG monitors.

Have an ice bag to use if necessary when you get home.

Bring any special prescribed medications (including inhalers, CPAP or angina medications, insulin) with you to your appointment. Take pre-medication one hour prior to appointment if indicated.

Do not wear contact lenses to appointment.

Do not smoke for minimum of 48 hours after surgery.

Wear comfortable shoes. Avoid clogs, high heels, boots, and long socks (for ease in placing ECG monitors).

IV sedation may cause nausea. A medication for nausea may need to be administered after surgery.

Stock up on soft foods (oatmeal, scrambled eggs, pudding, mashed potatoes, etc.).
