Before Laser Skin Resurfacing

Read your consent form carefully and ask Dr. Cohen any questions about the Laser Skin Resurfacing or surgery before you sign.

Wash your hair the night before surgery.

Wash your face well. Do not wear any makeup the day of surgery. Use mild soap and do not use a moisturizer.

Do not wear contact lenses.

You will be sedated for surgery. Do not eat any food or drink any fluids, including water, after midnight the night before surgery. If your surgery is in the afternoon follow the same instructions for 8 hours before surgery.

If you take medications, take them as directed unless told otherwise by the doctor.

Purchase your post-operative supplies and medications before your surgery:

Supplies: polysporin ointment (1/2 oz tube), aquaphor (16 oz container) or aquaphor healing ointment (1.75 oz), cotton tip applicators, cotton gauze, wooden tongue blades, white vinegar (buy a fresh bottle and keep it refrigerated), 4 bags of frozen peas to be used as a form-fitting ice pack (wash the outside of the bags with soap and water and put in the freezer for use after surgery), and mild soap.

Medications: antiviral medications (as noted on the prescription), antibiotic medications (immediately after treatment until finished), analgesics (as prescribed, or if not needed than over-the-counter acetaminophen or ibuprofen, do not take aspirin), vitamins (multivitamins and 400 IU of Vitamin E daily beginning 2 weeks before surgery).
